Minor Procedures

Our physicians have experience with minor procedures such as surgically removing unwanted moles, skin tags, lipomas (fat pads,) as well as sebaceous cysts.

Lipomas

A lipoma is a collection of fatty tissue that is found just below the skin. Lipomas are soft and rubbery and move easily to touch. They can occur anywhere in the body but are commonly found on the back, shoulders, neck, scalp, and armpits. They are harmless but can sometimes cause discomfort depending on where they are located.

Moles

Moles are common skin growths that affect people of all ages. They can be found anywhere on the body and are not a cause of concern. They are cause by pigment and overgrowth of skin. Your mole will be examined by our physician and removed by cutting the tissue. The mole can also be sent to the lab for biopsy if there is any cause for suspicion.

Skin Tags

Skin tags are excess growths of skin that usually occur in areas of friction and folds of skin such as around the neck, armpits, and under breasts. They are harmless skin-coloured growths that are removed due to aesthetic reasons. Smaller skin tags can be frozen with liquid nitrogen with 1-2 treatments 2 weeks apart. Larger skin tags may need to be removed in a minor procedure.

Who will be performing the procedure?

Dr. Bahram Sarang is a certified medical doctor with 20+ years of experience in family medicine and minor procedures. He is well versed with consulting, diagnosing, investigating, and performing the procedure plus follow up appointments to ensure a smooth healing process.

Will my procedure be painful?

All procedures are done under local anesthesia ensuring numbness and minimization of any discomfort.

Will I get a scar?

It is impossible to avoid a scar once an incision is made onto your skin. However, with advanced experience our physicians can use their expertise to minimize post-operative scarring.

When can I return to work?

This question varies with individuals and their jobs but the main goal is to minimize the tension placed on the treatment area after the operation. This is to ensure the integrity of the stitches and minimize potential risk of infection and scarring. Our physicians will give you detailed guidance post operation and reassess you in follow up care to ensure a safe return to work plan.

How long will the procedure take?

This varies depending on the type of procedure. Most of the time lipomas/cysts can be removed within 30 – 40 minutes. Skin tags take a shorter amount of time and take about 20 minutes.
